RESPONSIBILITIES The position of Safety and Security Officer requires the individual to maintain a safe and secure environment for community members and housing employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.

SAFETY AND SECURITY JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalency. Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License that can be insurable by the SLHC Insurance policy. Skills include lifting, surveillance skills, dealing with uncertainty, judgement, objectivity, dependability, emotional control, integrity, safety management, professionalism and reporting skills.

SAFETY AND SECURITY JOB DUTIES
• Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property owned or managed by the Spirit Lake Housing Corporation, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment and access points, permitting entry.
• Obtains law enforcement assistance by clearly communicating behavior and activity.
• Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violations of policy and procedures, reporting trespassers and asking them to leave the property.
• Controls traffic if necessary by directing drivers.
• Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses, obtaining signatures.
• Maintain environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
• Maintains organizational stability by providing protection for Spirit Lake Housing Corporation employees and property.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Position requires compliance with applicable federal law, federal regulations, Tribal law, SLHC policies and procedures including, but not limited to, SLHC Ethical Standards of Conduct Policy and Personnel Policy and all other pertinent requirements regarding the services to be provided. Must comply with the SLHC drug/alcohol policy and submit to random testing when required.
